As part of the program, you will receive updates about your Mother bee’s life and activities. For example, you’ll hear about when she leaves the hive to start a new colony, and when a new queen joins the hive. This way, you get to follow along with her journey! The Save the Bees USA Adopt A Honey Bee Program gives people and groups a special way to help save bees. By choosing one of three package options, you can symbolically adopt a Colony Ruler. You’ll get a certificate with your name, learning materials, and updates on how your hive is doing. The three levels, from Buzzing Advocate to Queen’s Ambassador, offer different ways to get involved, be recognized, and receive special updates.

Welcome to Save The Bees USA! We work to protect bees and create a safe place for these important pollinators. Our "Sponsor A Queen" program lets people learn about the queen bee and her big role in the hive. This program helps everyone understand why the queen bee is so important for keeping the hive strong and healthy.
The queen is the heart of the colony, showing both leadership and responsibility. One of her main jobs is laying eggs—she can lay up to 2,000 eggs in a single day! This amazing ability is key to helping the colony grow and stay strong. The Royal Bee lays two types of eggs: fertilized and unfertilized. During her mating flight, the queen mates with male bees, called drones, and stores their sperm in a special organ called the spermatheca. When laying eggs, she releases the stored sperm to fertilize some eggs, which will become female worker bees. Unfertilized eggs become male bees, or drones. Using her abdomen, the queen places a single egg in each cell of the hive’s honeycomb, keeping the colony’s population healthy and thriving.
The queen bee is fed royal jelly, a special substance made by worker bees. This royal jelly is key to her development and makes her different from other bees. Because of her diet, the queen bee grows larger, lives longer, and has more strength to lay eggs.
Besides laying eggs, the queen also controls the hive by releasing queen pheromones. These are special scents that help keep the hive in order, guiding the worker bees and keeping everyone working together. The queen’s pheromones are important for communication and harmony within the hive.
Inside the hive, nurse bees care for the young bees, making sure they grow up strong. The queen’s steady egg-laying keeps this cycle going, showing how all the bees work together. This teamwork between the queen, worker bees, and nurse bees shows how connected and organized the hive is.
Male bees, or drones, play a big role when the queen goes on her mating flight. Drones gather in certain spots, waiting for the queen. This gathering is important because it helps the queen mate successfully and brings genetic diversity to the hive.
