A Living Legacy for Pollinators

Gifts of Land & Pollinator Habitat

With thoughtful planning, land can become lasting habitat for native bees, butterflies, birds, and the flowering plants that sustain them.

Land With a Conservation Purpose

Ways Land May Support Pollinators

Save The Bees USA welcomes early conversations with landowners, families, trustees, and estate representatives. An inquiry begins a careful review; it does not mean the organization has accepted the property or assumed responsibility for it.

An Outright Gift of Property

A donor may propose transferring full ownership of land or another real-estate interest. Depending on the property, it may be evaluated for mission use, partnership, transfer to a qualified steward, or sale to support pollinator programs.

A Gift Through a Will or Trust

Land may be transferred through an estate plan. Advance conversation is strongly encouraged so the donor’s goals, the property’s condition, and the organization’s ability to accept it can be considered before documents are finalized.

Conservation Easements and Partner Protection

An easement can limit future development while land remains privately owned. Because easements require specialized legal, scientific, financial, and monitoring capacity, Save The Bees USA would explore one only with qualified conservation partners.

Habitat Funding and Stewardship Support

Gifts or grants may support native flowering plants, nesting areas, water resources, soil health, and connected habitat. Public or private assistance may be available, but eligibility and funding are never guaranteed.

The Land They Will Inherit

A Gift of Land Can Protect Wonder for Generations

The most meaningful habitat is not only protected on paper. It becomes a living place where flowers return, pollinators thrive, and children form a joyful connection with the natural world.

Responsible Land Protection

What We Consider Before Accepting Land

Responsible stewardship begins with understanding both the conservation opportunity and the legal, environmental, and financial obligations attached to a property.

Conservation Value

Pollinator habitat, broader ecological value, location, acreage, current use, and the surrounding landscape.

Ownership and Title

Clear ownership, liens, mortgages, easements, leases, restrictions, legal access, boundaries, and survey information.

Property Rights

Water and mineral rights, zoning, taxes, insurance, public-access expectations, and other continuing obligations.

Environmental Condition

Potential contamination, cleanup liability, previous uses, buildings, infrastructure, maintenance, and safety concerns.

Long-Term Stewardship

Restoration, monitoring, management, carrying costs, reporting, and funding needed to protect the land responsibly.

The Best Mission Path

Whether retaining, partnering, transferring, or selling the property would best advance pollinator conservation.

Save The Bees USA may decline a proposed gift that is unsuitable, presents excessive risk or expense, conflicts with the mission, or cannot be responsibly managed.

A Careful Process

From First Conversation to Responsible Stewardship

Start With General Details

Share the state and county, approximate acreage, current use, and conservation goals. Please do not send deeds, tax returns, account numbers, or other sensitive records in the first inquiry.

Explore Mission Fit

We consider habitat value, educational potential, likely costs, restrictions, risks, and possible conservation partners.

Complete Independent Review

If the opportunity appears promising, legal, title, appraisal, survey, environmental, insurance, and stewardship questions may require qualified professionals.

Obtain Formal Approval

No land gift is accepted unless its terms are documented and formally approved in writing by Save The Bees USA.

Plan the Long-Term Future

Before closing, the parties identify the intended ownership, management, restoration, funding, reporting, and protection strategy.

Carry the Legacy Forward

A responsible outcome may combine donor intent, pollinator science, qualified local stewardship, and durable funding.

Partnership Makes Protection Stronger

Potential Habitat Partners and Funding

The right approach may involve organizations with specialized land, science, funding, or stewardship capacity.

Local and Conservation Partners

State agencies, conservation districts, qualified land trusts, community foundations, universities, Indigenous partners, and private habitat funders may play a role where appropriate.

Each program and partner has its own eligibility rules, priorities, agreements, and timelines. Mentioning a resource does not guarantee that Save The Bees USA, a donor, or a particular property will qualify.

Common Questions

Land Gift FAQs

Will Save The Bees USA keep every donated property?

No. Depending on mission fit and due diligence, a property might be retained, transferred to a qualified steward, protected through partnership, sold to fund the mission, or declined.

Does land need to be pristine?

Not necessarily. Restoration potential can matter, but contamination, access, legal restrictions, costs, and long-term stewardship capacity must all be evaluated.

Can I require the land to remain pollinator habitat forever?

Permanent restrictions require specialized legal drafting and a qualified organization able to monitor and enforce them. Please discuss goals before including restrictions in a deed, will, or trust.

Will a land gift qualify for a charitable deduction?

Save The Bees USA cannot promise a deduction or provide valuation advice. Donors should consult independent legal, tax, and appraisal professionals.
